This time of year when you’re all bundled up in the cold and your skin is dry, you might think twice about exfoliating your skin. But, I’m here to tell you this is one step you shouldn’t skip, no matter the season. Exfoliation is what helps to unclog pores, keep acne at bay and promote brighter, smoother skin. Fresh skin cells are better able to absorb skin-care products as well, making your routine more effective. I am big fan of exfoliating products, especially at-home resurfacing peels, but my skin isn’t always as enthusiastic. The Benefits of This Overnight Peel
As I mentioned above, I am a fan of at-home peels. I’ve easily tried more than 100 in my 15-year beauty career. Some come with multiple steps, mixing bowls and all the things. Others, like this one, are simple, straightforward serums that are just as effective. Regardless of the steps or ingredients, I look for one that will give me multiple benefits without burning my face off. This peel uses a mix of acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic and malic) to help even out skin tone and texture, which are things I’ve noticed more of in my mid-30s. I’ve developed a bit of blotchiness that comes and goes, and of course several fine lines. The formula also helps fade dark spots and discoloration (I have a few around my temples from sun exposure). But that’s not all: The peel also somehow provides hydrating benefits, and is even safe for sensitive skin types.
There are also two other things I really love about this peel. First, the way it feels when it goes on. It’s silky and lightweight. I did get a little tingle the first couple times I used it, but then my skin became acclimated. Second, it’s not harsh on my skin. It doesn’t disrupt my skin barrier or cause irritation. This is due to the inclusion of the brand’s proprietary HydraCactus Complex. The blend of prickly pear extract, desert date oil and hyaluronic acid soothes and hydrates even the most sensitive skin. When I wake up, my skin feels baby-soft and has a really pretty lit-from-within glow.

How to Use It
After washing your face, apply a dime-sized amount to your face and neck. Do not rinse it off, as this formula is meant to be left on overnight. You may be a little surprised by the scent at first (there’s no synthetic fragrance in there to mask the smell of the natural ingredients, which is actually a good thing), but I got used to it pretty quickly. The benefits far outweigh the scent.
Like with any product containing multiple acids, you may feel some tingling, but it should subside. Apply your night cream or moisturizer on top. The brand recommends using it every other night, alternating with its Midnight Magic PM Serum, which is a retinol and peptide formula.
