This is an exciting month for fragrance with so many different scent profiles making their way to market. Some, like Dossier’s original Winter Kiss, give you the warm, fuzzy feeling you want in January (if you live in a colder climate). Others are heading in a warmer, fruitier direction, like Prada’s new Rhubarb elixir and NEST New York’s fresh take on strawberry. Here, see our picks for the best new fragrances this month. There’s something for everyone!
The Best New Fragrances This Month
PHLUR Golden Rule Eau de Parfum ($99)
The brand describes this fruity-floral perfume as embodying “modern femininity” and being “warm, unforgettable and electric.” Perfumer Frank Voelkl says, “I wanted to capture the magnetic, alluring energy of a person with confidence and ownership of themselves. I mixed energetic, youthful notes with sensual undertones like sparkling mandarin layered against sultry jasmine and creamy vanilla. The result is radiant with feminine energy.”
KEY NOTES
Top: Mandarin Splash, Pink Pepper, Golden Pear; Heart: Orange Flower Water, Jasmine Blossom, Coconut Milk; Base: Benzoin, Sandalwood, Vanilla Cream
Dossier Winter Kiss Eau de Parfum ($34)
If you like boozy fragrances, this one is giving aprés ski (or skin, the way it evolves during the dry down). Think of “grown up” hot chocolate—a bit sweet, a bit spicy. “It smells like the perfect cup of hot cocoa on a snowy winter day…a tribute to winter’s great small pleasures,” says Dossier.
KEY NOTES
Top: Milky Accord, Clove, Nutmeg, Rum; Middle: Chocolate, Incense, Cinnamon; Base: Vanilla, Vetiver, Sandalwood
PRADA Infusion de Rhubarbe Eau de Parfum ($180)
A unisex, floral-fruity scent (more rose, less citrus), this fragrance is described as “a balance of sweet and tart presented by the curiously fruity, playful personality of the rhubarb accord.”
KEY NOTES
Rhubarb Accord, Rose, Green Mandarine, White Musks Accord
NEST New York Santa Barbara Strawberry Perfume Oil ($102)
Strawberry perfumes are undoubtedly a continuing trend this year, and this concentrated oil will have your senses singing for spring. The fruity-floral fragrance “captures the beautiful vibrancy of a ripe strawberry bursting with brightness.” The Santa Barbara strawberry essence is manufactured via a sustainable extraction process and then blended with skin-friendly baobab oil.
KEY NOTES
Luscious Strawberry, Dewy Pink Peony, Solar Woods
Skylar Nude Skin ($90)
Skin scents were hugely popular last year, and the trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon. This new scent, which the brand says is its most intimate yet, gives vibes of “the softest silk on bare skin.” It certainly has that comfy, addictive quality we love.
KEY NOTES
Top: Pineapple Splash, Papaya Smoothie, Starfruit; Middle: Tiger Orchid, Coconut Blossom, Frangipani; Base: Warm Vanilla, Golden Amber, Upcycled Cedar
Tom Ford Beauty Rose Exposed ($300)
For all the rose lovers out there, this, like most of Tom Ford’s fragrances, spins the classic flower on its head. The floral-leather mix is described as “delicate, yet confident,” showcases “an exclusive rose-on-rose co-distillation note of rose absolute and rose water extract.”
KEY NOTES
Rose Absolute, Rose Water Extract, White Pepper, Musk, Woods
AERIN Tuberose Gardenia ($150)
Inspired by founder Aerin Lauder’s treasured memories and heritage, this beautiful floral blend features two key notes she holds dear. Gardenia, the flower woven into her hair on her wedding day, and tuberose, which was featured in her grandmother’s bridal bouquet. And for all you fragrance aficionados, this is the same fragrance as Estée Lauder’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia Eau de Parfum that launched in 2007. It’s now being introduced in a new bottle as part of the AERIN collection.
KEY NOTES
Tuberose, Gardenia, Vanilla, Orange Flower, Violet Leaves, Musk
Fine’ry She’s a Goodie Eau de Parfum ($30)
“Not the girl next door, but I used to be,” is the mantra attached to this new fragrance, which is exclusive to Target. So what does “a good girl gone bad” smell like? Purple plum, gardenia petals an warm tuberose, apparently. And it smells really good.
KEY NOTES
Top: Black Currant, Apple, Purple Plum; Middle: Jasmine, Rose, Gardenia; Base: Tuberose, Orris, Sugar
