Few celebrities have earned the title of mani muse as thoroughly as Selena Gomez (and, in turn, her longtime manicurist, Tom Bachik). Her best manicures run the gamut from minimalist to maximalist, and nearly all of them are worthy of screenshotting as inspo. The set Bachik just resurfaced, which Gomez first wore in 2021, falls somewhere in between: the “femme fatale mani for fall,” as he calls it.
“I’m loving rich, vampy colors for this season and some hardware to bring some edge,” Bachik captioned his latest Instagram post, a throwback to the look. The set clearly delivers on both. Gomez’s signature almond-shaped nails are painted a matte oxblood that’s essentially fall in polish form. For the hardware, a few nails have tiny gold hoops pierced through the tips, while two others have a gold crescent with a small stud placed just above the cuticle.
Bachik’s followers are just as enamored with the look, and one fan summed it up perfectly: “This is so 2016.” They’re not wrong. Matte finishes, vampy burgundy shades and dainty gold nail jewelry were everywhere a decade ago. Five years after Gomez first wore it, Bachik’s throwback is proof the mid-2010s grunge-meets-glam look still has staying power. Consider this your sign to try it for fall.
