When makeup artist Myiesha Sewell couldn’t find her dream job, she created it out of thin air with Sephora. Now, she is one of the brands’ three beauty directors, a gig that didn’t exist just two years ago. The beauty boss says her superpower is “shape-shifting” because she can literally pull off—and personally create—any beauty look.
Sewell has “a lot of light” in her apartment, so she applies a clean sunscreen daily—even when she’s working from home. Her go-tos include Farmacy ($36) and Supergoop! Unseen ($34). “My friends make fun of me because I wear mascara around the house, but it just makes me happy. Smashbox Super Fan ($21) is the perfect, barely there mascara that’s buildable. It’s my house mascara.”
Sewell was the only member of her family to wear makeup growing up; she credits learning about it through her dance team and reading Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces ($15).
Rock And Roll
“I have a huge collection of jewelry. Some pieces are family heirlooms, some thrifted and others are fast fashion. Some of my favorite pieces include my blowfish ring and the guitar brooch—it had real strings—that I inherited from my great uncle. Jeffrey, my coworker, says I dress like a Fabergé egg. I can’t wait to get older because the fancy granny look is where I’m headed: floral from head to toe and big costume jewelry.” Most of my pieces are vintage, but other than that, I shop almost exclusively at ASOS. I love Never Fully Dressed, a UK-based boutique. The Leopard Jaspre wrap skirt ($75) is a go-to for me. Also, I live in Birkenstocks ($100), and my favorite errand-running bag is the Mini Dagne Dover Backpack ($135).”
