Supermodel Miranda Kerr is so stunning, that when she shares a skin-care or diet secret, you automatically want to try it—stat.
In a recent Twitter Q&A, the model and founder of KORA Organics revealed that she meditates first thing in the morning and sometimes goes to bed with a coconut oil mask in her hair.

This isn’t the first time Miranda has praised the power of coconut oil—in fact, she’s also said she eats four tablespoons of coconut oil a day.
But before you dive into that diet, consider this: “Coconut oil actually contains more saturated fat than butter,” says Tampa, FL, dietitian Alexandra Vermillion. “There is some recent research looking at how the type of saturated fat found in plant based foods may be different than the saturated fats found in animal products, but until more research is done and this theory is confirmed, coconut oil should be treated like any other saturated fat.”

Vermillion adds that while coconut oil is often touted as healthy because it has a high percentage of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), there’s one tiny problem with it: “The research done with MCTs uses mostly refined MCT oil preparations from capric and caprylic acids. The MCTs found in coconut oil are predominantly lauric acid. We can’t extrapolate data from studies using refined MCT oil preparations to coconut oil. Studies that have tested coconut oil’s effect (not MCT oil) on cholesterol show that coconut oil does actually cause an increase in total and LDL (bad) cholesterol.”
