In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Holmes revealed some key early morning practices to keeping her grounded through it all.
While discussing her hectic schedule as of late between starring in an off-Broadway and acting, writing and co-directing her latest project, Rare Objects, Holmes explains that, nevertheless, she tries to start every week by waking up at 8 a.m. and writing out at least three or four pages in order to get her mind organized and ready for the day ahead. With a life as busy as Holmes’, it’s essential to establish a morning ritual that helps foster wellness. For the 44-year old mom of a teen, this comes in the form of creative outlets. “I try to start the week with something creative for myself, like a dance class or maybe I’ll paint for a little bit,” she explains.
Painting, the actress explains further, has actually become a really important part of not just her morning routine, but also her entire adult life in terms of staying grounded. “I’ve been doing it for most of my adult life,” she says. “I find it to be very soothing in between projects, and there’s such a value in using your hands.”
In addition to finding her love of painting, Holmes also revealed that one of the key ways she stays focussed is by never skimping out on sleep. “With The Wanderers, I made sure I got my sleep,” she begins, “It’s like a sprint. You’re readying yourself every day for that burst of energy for two hours, and you can’t really have an off night.”
