Leave it to Jennifer Lopez to set the trend for this summer’s hottest nail color. For the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s Atlas on Monday, May 20, the 54-year-old actress stunned in a two-piece Greta Constantine ensemble and eye-catching jewels. While her outfit and glam were undeniably notable, we couldn’t help but notice her manicure. For the special occasion, JLo seemingly revived last summer’s blueberry milk nails trend but with a more understated twist.
Rather than embracing true blueberry milk nails, which are a creamy blue hue, these nails appear white at first glance with just a hint of blue. In other words, they’re the perfect color to copy for summer without feeling late to the trend. Celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik was the mastermind behind the manicure, and lucky for us, he shared the exact steps to recreate this look on his Instagram feed. Keep scrolling for the details on how to recreate it, along with the exact products he used.
Step 1: Prep Nails
Bachik prepped Lopez’s nails using Tweezerman tools. On his Instagram Story, he provided more details about which nail tools he uses, sharing photos of the brand’s nail files, nail clippers, and cuticle pushers.
Step 2: Apply Base Coat
After that, he prepped her nails for polish with the Aprés Nail Base Gelcoat.
Step 3: Layer Nail Polish
Next up: polish. Bachik used two shades from the new Aprés Nail Light and Shadow Gel Color Collection. As described by the brand on Instagram, the lineup is “a HEMA and cruelty free, vegan formula that is a sheer, buildable gel color.” It’s made up of 40 shades and the pro seemingly couldn’t choose just one. “I layered @apresnailofficial Light & Shadow Gel Couleurs in ‘Renewal’ and ‘Daydreaming,'” he wrote on Instagram. The brand describes Renewal as a “silvery glitter” color and Daydreaming as a “pale blue-white” hue.
Step 4: Apply Top Coat
Bachik locked in his client’s color with the brand’s Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat. The formula is widely praised for its glossy, durable finish.
Step 5: Finish With Cuticle Oil
“No look is finished without hydrated cuticles,” Bachik wrote in his Instagram caption. Naturally, he stuck with his beloved Aprés Nail products for this step, reaching for the brand’s cuticle oil, namely its “Winter Returns” formula. Aprés Nail offers several cuticle serums, but this one stands out for its unique scent—a lovely blend of orange, violet, and cedar.
