We called it this past autumn: cherry mocha nails were on the rise—and not to brag, but we were spot on. Now, in the heart of winter, the dark red nail trend shows no signs of slowing down, with Jennifer Lopez among its biggest fans. In a recent Instagram post, her go-to manicurist, Tom Bachik, shared a close-up of her chic manicure, captioning it, “Chocolate Cherry 4Ever.”
Bachik also shared the details behind Lopez’s long, glossy nails in the caption, revealing he used Aprés Nail Gel Couleur in the shade Blood Moon layered over the brand’s Gel-X Natural Coffin Medium Tips. To complete the chocolate cherry gel manicure, he also reached for a few other Aprés essentials, including the Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat and Winter Returns Cuticle Serum.
You’re certainly not alone if you’re inspired to try the chocolate cherry (aka cherry mocha) nail color trend. “Cherry mocha nails first gained attention from a TikTok where a user showcased their manicure using the shade Cherry Mocha by DND,” CEO of Nailing Hollywood, Mazz Hanna, told NewBeauty in August. “This deep burgundy polish with rich purple undertones is perfect for the fall and winter months. Cherry mocha nails look incredible on short to medium length rounded or almond nails since the softer edges beautifully complement the richness of the color.” (And on long, coffin nails, evidently.)
As implied, this isn’t Lopez’s first time sporting cherry mocha nails. In November, she enlisted Bachik to create a similar look. For that manicure, he swapped Aprés for CND’s Shellac Black Cherry, which he described as “for all the fall vibes” in an Instagram caption. But clearly, the shade is just as trendy for winter; it’s officially approved by the triple threat herself.
