We’re all familiar with the myth of the siren, yes? If not, let us enchant you with their tale. The siren, in Greek mythology, is known for luring men at sea with their entrancing songs. The siren eye makeup trend evokes the seductive energy of the siren into eye makeup, giving the person with siren eyes the illusion of an irresistible, captivating glare. Siren eyes makeup artist experts share tips on technique and makeup products to help you perfect the siren eye look.

The siren eye makeup trend

Beauty expert and owner of Hannah Elisabeth Beauty, Hannah Metz, describes the siren eye trend as a more modern take on the fox eyes look with a more overall smoky eye look to it. Siren eyes have “a lot of depth and drama,” says Metz. TikTok user Harriet Quested, who jumped on the trend, says this trend can alter the look of the eye shape and enhance the overall eyes “in order to appear more elongated and seductive.”

The inspiration behind the siren eyes look

According to Metz, one of the biggest inspirations for this trend is Euphoria, in addition to what we’ve seen on runway models, celebrities and influencers lately. As for why siren eyes have caught on, Metz says, “It’s such a fun, sexy look that’s simultaneously sultry and sophisticated. It’s a makeup look that really makes a statement.“

Quested points to Instagram and TikTok filters as part of the siren eyes craze. In a way, these TikTok filters can alter the shape of certain features, “making people want to turn this into a reality and recreate these filters using makeup,” she explains.

How to achieve the siren eyes look and what products to use

Products and technique are crucial to when trying to get the trending look. To nail the siren eyes trend, Metz suggests using a long-lasting waterproof kohl black eye pencil. She recommends MAC Eye Kohl ($21). Other products you’ll want to have on hand include an eye shadow palette with a variety of brown colors, specifically a gradient of black to medium brown to light brown. However, some makeup artists skip eye shadow products altogether when creating siren eyes makeup and instead connect the liner in the corner. Line your top and bottom waterline, and lash line if you want, with the black eye pencil. Then take a flat definer brush to apply the eye shadow from dark to light and blend well, instructs Metz. “The goal is to create a soft, diffused effect around the eyes.”

You’ll want to have a pretty substantial wing at the corner edge of the siren eyes look, notes Quested. Be sure to sweep eye shadow up to the temple in order to create a shadow, she adds. Add mascara or apply false lashes to the lash line to complete the eye look just the way you like it. If you still need a bit more coaching there are tons of siren eyes tutorials on TikTok and Instagram.
