Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato go way back. They met as kids on the set of Barney & Friends, and by the late 2000s they were two of Disney Channel’s biggest stars, teaming up for 2009’s Princess Protection Program and filming goofy homemade YouTube videos. Now, the childhood friends are reuniting for Rare Beauty’s new campaign, aptly called “Still Making Each Other Blush.”
The campaign launched on Instagram on Wednesday, October 28 with a reel that feels straight out of 2008. Posted jointly by @rarebeauty and @ddlovato, it shows the pair dancing, laughing and singing into a hairbrush in a pink bedroom set, shot homemade-vlog style.
“YO YO YO 🤭💗 18 years later, Delena is back with a vlog,” the caption reads, a nod to their 2008 YouTube video, which Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux infamously parodied at the time. Look closely and you’ll spot a notebook of “fan questions” signed with usernames Camp Rock fans will recognize. A second post goes full princess. Gomez wears a teal ruffled gown and tiara, Lovato a yellow gown and crown, and they’re perched on vintage suitcases in a shot resembling their Princess Protection Program movie poster.
Then there’s the blush: the limited-edition Delena: Soft Pinch Blush Bundle ($50). The set pairs each star’s favorite shade of Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush: Hope, a nude mauve, for Gomez and Virtue, a beige peach, for Lovato. Both shades have a dewy finish, and the set comes with the Soft Pinch Blush Brush.
“Selena and I have shared a lot of memories over the years since childhood, so being able to connect in this way, in a campaign that feels so nostalgic to both of us, is such a full-circle moment,” Lovato said in a statement. “Being on set together felt like we were back in our old bedrooms making YouTube videos and playing with makeup.”
“The experiences I’ve shared with Demi are truly unique,” Gomez added. “Coming together for this campaign was a beautiful reminder of that history and a chance to celebrate who we are today. One and the same… always.”
