If you’re tuning into tonight’s 80th annual Golden Globe awards, you’ve seen bangs in all forms: short and asymmetrical, thick and tousled, and everything in between. If these red-carpet looks are any prediction of 2023 trends, bangs are back in a big way! These are some of our favorite styles of the night on some of Hollywood’s biggest names, thanks to the celebrity hairstylists who brought them to life.

Jenna Ortega

Trading her signature Wednesday braids for the fresh cut with thick bangs she got last month from celebrity hairstylist David Stanwell, the it-girl stunned in a cut-out Gucci dress and super-fluttery lashes.

“We took a little risk, but I believe it’s good to have fun and try new things by just tweaking a little here and there,” says Stanwell, who used FEKKAI Root Lift Spray on damp hair, then blow-dried with a round brush blow dry and set the hair with Velcro rollers. “We didn’t want it too rigid or set, and I still wanted to work with the haircut we had just done a few weeks ago. I love having the haircut make a statement, sculpting it around her face and playing with shapes that work. I bumped up the hair behind bangs for a little lift and effortlessly tucked hair behind her ears to keep it relaxed and yet still chic.”

Julia Garner

Inspired by the Ozark and Inventing Anna actress’s pink Gucci gown, celebrity hairstylist Bobby Eliot wanted Garner’s hair to feel “easy and modern to complement it.” He applied René Furterer Absolue Keratine Ultimate Repair Serum to the ends and a small amount of STYLE Sculpting Mousse to the roots, then combed them through using a wide-tooth detangling comb to melt them together.

“Next, I used my GHD tail comb to section off hair into clean, diagonal sections. Using my GHD flat iron, I began smoothing out the hair section by section. While the hair was still warm, I used my GHD oval dressing brush to mold the hair around the face with how I wanted it to sit, with small, no crease flat clips. Lastly, I used the STYLE Texture Spray at the roots and ends for added texture.”

Liza Koshy

The YouTuber and actress’s edgy hairstyle, complete with a slicked-back bun and asymmetrical bangs, was a perfect match for her black Morphew dress (and peekaboo thong!). Celebrity hairstylist Castillo nailed the look using Matrix products.

Kaley Cuoco

Celebrity hairstylist Christine Symonds gave The Flight Attendant star and mom-to-be—she’s nominated for Best Television Actress—a beautiful updo and soft curtain bangs to show off her new brunette color and complement her pastel gown.

Milly Alcock

The House of the Dragon star who plays young Rhaenyra slayed on the red carpet tonight with a smoky eye, shiny nude lip and chin-length bangs courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Graham Nation.

Natasha Lyonne

Nominated for Best Television Actress in a Musical/Comedy Series for Russian Doll, Lyonne turned heads on the red carpet with her tousled, fiery-orange fringe, which she paired with two bluntly chopped sections of hair framing the sides of her face. The rest of her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail—one of the most unique looks we’ve seen tonight.

Daisy Edgar-Jones

Celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath wanted to give the Under the Banner of Heaven and Where the Crawdads Sing actress “a classic look with added texture.” Heath sprayed Hair Rituel by Sisley-Paris Volumizing Spray throughout the roots to add volume, and then blow-dried with the Blow Dry Brush 2, switching to the Blow Dry Brush 1 when she reached the bangs to achieve even more volume at the roots. “For these types of events, hair prep is key,” Heath says.

To complete the look, Heath slightly pulled the hair at the crown to add more volume and texture, and lightly teased the bangs from underneath.
