It only takes one conversation with Dr. Orit Markowitz to feel her passion for scarless skin cancer surgery come through, and with good reason. Her unique noninvasive techniques for diagnosing and treating basal and squamous cell skin cancers always result in a scar-free outcome. “My passion is detecting and treating skin cancer without cutting,” says the medical director and founder of OptiSkin. “I’ve performed these procedures since 2007, and have published many articles, along with five-year follow-up data on the topic. My clearance rates are very similar to surgery,” she says. Her continuous success rates are what has made her so well-known that patients fly from around the world to see her. “For imaging, I use a non-cutting biopsy device called a confocal microscope to diagnose the tumor. Then, for pretreatment margination, I use a noninvasive laser called optical coherence tomography, for which I’ve led the research on in the U.S. I then combine non-ablative lasers to remove most skin cancers without cutting, as well as any pre-cancer, sun damage and any underlying skin issues like rosacea, acne or surgical scars. My patients go home without a Band-Aid that same day.”

   What I love the most about dermatology is that when one of my patients comes to me with a concern, I’m able to deliver an immediate result.
