Miami may be known as the land of sexy women who are barely dressed. But it’s also home to some of the country’s best spas. And recently, I got to spend some much-needed down time at the Carillon Spa in Miami Beach, and it was just what I needed.
My morning started off with the 50-minute Wellness Compass ($165), which is an assessment of where I stand healthwise. After a few quick balance tests–like standing on one leg and a cool machine that measured body fat and metabolism rates–and questions about my diet and workout routine, I was given a snapshot on the areas where I could improve and how to get to my target weight. While I was told I am on good track to get the results that I’m after (read: toning up), I was given some helpful advice, like eating more peanut butter after working out and adding in some exercises like yoga and Pilates to help with flexibility.

Next up was the North Beach Drift ($300)—110 minutes of pure bliss. Inspired by the spa’s majestical beach atmosphere (literally steps from the treatment room), this head-to-toe treatment was just what I needed to set me on the path to relaxation. First, I was treated to a full-body exfoliation—it wasn’t the least bit aggressive, hard on the skin or uncomfortable—which left my skin smooth to the touch. Next came a mini facial, and then the best part of the treatment: the wrap. An aromatic seawater gel was applied to my body before I got into a dry float cocoon (imagine a bathtub with a raft of sorts that you wrap around your body kind of like a blanket) and snoozed off to dreamland for 20 minutes.
Just when I thought it was time to clean up and be done with the treatment, a full-body massage was next on the agenda. All in all, there wasn’t a single step overlooked in this treatment and my entire body felt totally rejuvenated and renewed.
So the next time I am asked what’s a must-do in Miami, a trip to the Carillon Spa is definitely on the can’t-miss list.
