Move Over Rose Gold, Ash Balayage Hair Is Taking Off for 2017

By ·

Pinterest is the ultimate source for hair, makeup, and skin care inspiration—not to mention the fact that it acts as the perfect, semi-productive tool for procrastination. While those hours spent on Pinterest typically serve up some seriously good beauty tips, tricks and trends, we don’t always have time to dig through the site for all the best ones.

So, in order to take a bit of the legwork out of all that Pinterest browsing, we went straight to the source and asked the site to share its top hair predictions for 2017 according to what its users are searching, saving and sharing. The answer? A brand-new hair color trend that’s equally gorgeous as it is edgy.

“Ash Balayage,” as it’s been recently named by hairstylists, starts as any normal balayage hair color would—with dark-toned roots. But then, the hair color gradient shifts toward a lighter, ashy blond color, until gradually feathering out into a silver shade. While this new hue certainly has a deeper, moodier feel to it, it doesn’t appear unnatural or too trend-forward.

Need more convincing of its popularity? This ash ombré hair color isn’t just blowing up on Pinterest (by a 240 percent search increase, by the way), it’s also popping up across Instagram feeds as well:

One thing to note: Achieving this hair color will use a ton of bleach, so be sure to follow a hair care routine, specifically for colored hair, after heading into the salon.
