In general, hair is strongest when it’s dry. When it’s wet, the cuticles are open, making it weak and more vulnerable. Once dry, it returns to its normal, stronger state, but while wet, hair needs to special care so it doesn’t experience breakage or damage.

For starters, use an appropriate conditioner for added strength. Also, avoid towel-drying your hair too vigorously. The friction of moving the towel around the hair can cause it to break. Instead, try gently blotting it or using your fingers to lightly squeeze out the extra water.

Should you choose to blow-dry your hair, make sure to first comb your hair from the ends up and dry it until most of the water is out. Then, use a brush to smooth and style it.
