Katie Holmes‘ new lob is everything you want in a hair makeover—not too drastic, not too much of the same and just an effortless-looking, fresh cut that, according to her stylist, everyone will be sporting soon.
As reported on by Us Weekly, hair guru DJ Quintero (he’s also the genius behind Faith Hill’s hair on our spring cover), did the cut on a bit of a whim. “I slide-cut this haircut in 15 minutes, just before she was about to walk out the door to the Chanel dinner,” he said. “She said, ‘Let’s just cut it!’ I said, ‘Are you sure?!’ and she said, ‘I need a little change.'”

He also went on to add that he did the “whole thing dry, while standing,” with the goal of keeping it piecey, uneven and natural.
If that sounds complicated, Quintero said that sporting it most definitely isn’t and compares it to a “spring cleaning.”
“It’s very low-maintenance and looks good on everyone and on most face shapes. By keeping layers longer it becomes less work for you to try to style, and keeping the perimeter soft (my slide-cutting technique) means no hard lines, which is flattering for most,” he told Us Weekly.
