Diving in to an honest skin conversation isn't easy. And since Summer House's Paige DeSorbo took the plunge, she's hasn't just found a bespoke skin-care routine that really works for her, but also a brand new community of girls going through the exact same thing.
Summer House Skin School
Acne can get to any of us, especially someone who has to be on camera. "I used to wear a ton of makeup on Summer House," Paige says. "And finally someone just asked me why I bothered and I thought...why do I bother? That was a real turning point for me."
When she decided to stop hiding behind so much makeup, the issues she was having with skin texture and acne started to come to the forefront.
"It just gets to you," she explains. "Even your makeup doesn't take as well. It doesn't sit right on your skin. I realized I also wasn't having any fun with makeup. It was just a way to try to hide."
That's when Face Reality came in the picture.
Time to Face Reality
"I realized that even though I had tried so many products and systems, I had never actually had a qualified dermatologist or aesthetician evaluate my skin and give me their expert opinion," Paige explains. "That's what is so different about Face Reality."
Paige was evaluated by celebrity aesthetician and Face Reality Acne Expert, Madalaina Conti, who helped develop a skin-care routine specifically for her. The end result is the first routine that has ever given her overnight improvement.
"The difference for me between Face Reality and other skin-care routines is that every time I'm tired or I just feel like I don't want to bother, I know that doing it will make a difference," she says. "I used to get so frustrated by committing to a skin routine just to wake up with a pimple. But with the Face Reality routine I had made for me, I know that my skin is going to be noticeably better tomorrow than it was today."
Additionally, getting direct instructions on how to use her new system helped Paige get everything out of her routine.
"I even learned that I was using serums totally wrong," she says. "I wasn't doing it in the right order or the right amount to get any kind of results from them."
Becoming a Mentor
As Paige DeSorbo began her skin-care journey on camera, more young girls began reaching out to her.
"I just feel like I have a responsibility to the girls who watch me and DM me asking questions about my skin and my acne," Paige explains. "I have a guardianship over them, to an extent. I want to be someone they can learn from, and being open about my acne journey has really connected me to those girls who are struggling with their skin."
That responsibility helped Paige get through the difficult part of being on TV without hiding your acne.
"It's interesting, because there was definitely fear and embarrassment about coming forward and being honest about my acne struggles," she says. "But after I did it, and realized how many girls were impacted by me just being honest about my skin, it suddenly wasn't so scary."
Paige DeSorbo's Face Reality Skin-Care Routine
"I've tried so many things, so many products and systems and routines," Paige explains. "But having a professional evaluate my skin and craft a routine just for me has changed absolutely everything."
Her routine is broken into morning and evening care, with a Sulfur Spot Treatment for use whenever she notices a pimple. Her morning routine hits the main points of cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection, but also includes a hydrating toner, a brightening Mandelic Serum, a hydrating gel and an eye gel. At night, she double cleanses, tones and uses the Acne Med before sealing it all in with the ClearDerma Moisturizer.
You can purchase nearly every step in the Paige DeSorbo skin-care routine, and for the ones that require an Acne Expert, Face Reality makes it easy to get started with their Skin Quiz and their Acne Expert portal.
"One of the biggest differences is just that my skin looks beautiful in light, you don't get any of that uneven texture that stands out so much when you have acne," DeSorbo explains. "But so much has changed—especially the way my skin takes makeup. It goes on so much better than it did when my skin was broken out constantly."
