Watching Becky G take on the ever-popular Hot Ones challenge hosted by Sean Evans is impressive, to say the least. The premise is simple but brutal: a celebrity works through ten wings, sauces climbing from mild to nearly unbearable, all while fielding questions that go far deeper than the usual press-junket small talk. One of them, posed to the 29-year-old TIME100 Next pop star: “Do you remember how old you were when you first gained confidence in your voice?”

In response, the singer recalled a home video her mom still has of her at around five, watching the national anthem on TV during a family Super Bowl and deciding she could do the same. “It was, like, a combination between Shakira, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and all of them just kind of, like, came together and had a baby,” she said of her five-year-old self. The talent would come later, but the nerve was there. “I was very young with a lot of confidence…and very much a lack of skill, but a strong desire to…be a pop star, for sure.”

And a pop star she became, recently releasing her fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita, dropping her documentary Rebecca on Netflix and earning Billboard’s 2026 Latin Women in Music Global Impact Award. All the while, her beauty regimen has been part of the conversation, too. She joined Garnier Fructis in a partnership in 2025 that’s since followed her to events, even Hot Ones, where her hair was sleek and polished, styled by celebrity hairstylist Danielle Priano. Makeup was equally fiery (pun-intended), with winged eyeliner, long, fluttery lashes and a glossy lip that outlasted the chicken.

Ahead, our conversation with Becky G on all things Hot Ones, hair, self-care and music.

Walk us through the look Danielle Priano created for your ‘Hot Ones’ appearance. What was the vision?

“For my Hot Ones appearance, Danielle and I wanted to create a look that felt very sleek, polished and under control, but still very me. We both knew I was about to eat some wings, so the hair had to match the experience and hold up through the entirety of it. The Garnier Fructis Diamond Sleek Hair Shine Spray ($9) made my hair stay in its place and shine in front of the cameras. It was definitely the ultimate test for how durable the sleek look can be.”

What does your everyday hair and beauty routine look like right now, and how does it differ from your ‘on tour’ or ‘on set’ routine?

“My beauty routine consists of keeping my skin clean and hydrated, especially when I’m on tour or on set as I have to wear a lot of makeup for work. For me, it is essential to take skin care seriously, because it lets me have even more fun experimenting with it.”

How has your relationship with beauty and self-expression evolved as your career and public persona have grown?

“My relationship with beauty and self-expression has grown in so many ways throughout my career. From being a teen, uploading song covers online to now where I’m constantly doing interviews, photoshoots and live performances, I’ve learned to like experimenting with my hair, makeup, fashion as a reflection of my current stage in life and music career. As I’ve grown more confident in who I am, beauty has become less about fitting into current trends or the public eye, and more about what I like and enjoy.”

With a schedule as packed as yours between touring and your album release, how do you practice self-care and keep yourself grounded?

“With everything always moving so fast for me, I’ve learned that self-care and keeping myself grounded has to be one of my top priorities as well. My schedule can get quite busy with all the traveling, performances, photoshoots and studio sessions, which is why giving myself permission to slow down can help me show up as my best self when it’s time to create, perform and most importantly work. I love to take advantage of the times I can stay at home, recharge and get ready for what is next up in my schedule!”

What drew you to partnering with Garnier, and what’s it been like collaborating with them on moments like this?

“What really drew me into partnering with Garnier was how much the brand admires beauty in everyone and encourages self expression through hair. My hair has always been an important part of how I express myself, whether it is by taking care of it or trying new looks and styles. This is why collaborating with a brand like Garnier feels natural as it is very authentic to me and my community.”

What can fans expect from you next, whether that’s music, beauty or otherwise?

“My fans can expect lots of new music from me! My fifth album, BARAJA BENDITA, is out, and I am so excited for everyone to finally hear it. This is one of my most personal projects that I have created in my career because it represents me as a whole. I also recently released the single ‘Te Olvido (La La)’ with Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez, which has made me so happy by seeing all of the love it has received.

There is also a lot coming up on the live performance side in my career. I will be headlining the Arizona 2026 Coliseum Concert Series at the Arizona State Fair on October 9th. While I also continue to be a guest performer in several shows with my friend, Karol G, at her Viajando Por El Mundo: Tropitour.”
