Ashley Tisdale has never been shy about the fact that her wellness brand, Being Frenshe, was born from a personal place—her mental health journey and how scent became a tool for grounding herself. Now, that philosophy gets its latest extension with Matcha Me, a new fragrance with notes of matcha, bergamot, coconut, milk, vanilla and sandalwood.
Ahead of the launch we asked Tisdale about the inspiration behind the new scent and how the team came to the fragrance’s final iteration.
The Inspiration
“Anyone who knows me knows that I drink matcha pretty much every day. I love the ritual of making it because you have to be present as you’re whisking, and it winds up being a sensory experience for me before my day gets started,” Tisdale tells us. “My morning matcha has become one of those little moments I really look forward to. I wake up before my daughters do, I meditate and then I make my matcha. It's one of the most calming moments of my day, and it helps me get into the right headspace before the day takes off.”
Tisdale says, “Making matcha is a beautiful ritual because it invites you to slow down and focus on nothing else.” She notes that that feeling really inspired the mood of the new Being Frenshe Matcha Me scent.
The Journey
Tisdale says the team went through many iterations to get the final product just right, and she loves where they landed with Matcha Me. “You really get the sense of fresh matcha tea, but the bergamot and coconut make it extra fresh,” she says, noting that she’s really particular about coconut in fragrance and is thrilled at how beautiful the note turned out in Matcha Me. “I also think the hint of sandalwood smells gorgeous as the fragrance unfolds.”
Finding Flow
“I'm really fascinated by the state of flow. When I'm engaged in what I’m doing, and I achieve flow, it’s like everything clicks into place. My mind is pure focus, and time practically disappears,” says Tisdale. “Like all Being Frenshe offerings, the fragrance has MoodScience Scent Technology, so it is literally designed to help you find more focus. That's how I feel after drinking matcha, so we wanted to bring that feeling beyond your morning ritual, so you can reconnect with it whenever you need it.”
