The 5 Biggest Bang Trends We’ll See This Fall

Birkin Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs have become a favored style at salons. However, this season, an updated version is entering the chat. The Birkin curtain bang blends elements of the two popular styles to create a modern look. “It features a sweeping fringe that parts softly in the middle or a slightly off-center part and has a romantic feel,” says celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos, who affectionately coined the term Gucci bangs. Think: lived in and luxe, with a touch of sultriness.

Feathered Fringe

“Lightweight bangs are ideal for anyone who wants bangs without the full commitment, and it looks amazing on naturally wavy textures,” says Giannetos. The stylist explains that while the cut transforms your current style, it’s also effortless and forgiving. These bangs are supposed to look feathery and free, which means they need only a little styling to maintain. “Minimal products with a quick mist of hair spray, such as L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Spray ($25), is enough to keep them looking light through the day,” he says.

Blunt Straight Cut

The experts agree blunt bangs are making a big comeback this season. “They’re fashion-forward but can also be softened to make a subtly daring statement,” says Giannetos. Plus, as hairstylist Paulina Raciborski notes, they pair well with different hair lengths, adding a sleek and polished look to the style. Blunt bangs are notoriously tricky to pull off, and you need to be specific to get a cut you’ll love. “Asking for a bold, blunt cut across the brow bone with internal texturizing will ensure it doesn’t sit like a helmet and is instead softly defined,” says Giannetos.

Eyelash Bangs

According to Raciborski, subtle bangs are trending right now because they have a more youthful and playful feel. If you’re looking for a bold change but prefer a style that’s not overly bulky, an eyelash bang is a good option. As one of the airiest cuts it gives your style a lifted look without feeling too heavy. The catch is, they don’t pair well with every texture or hair type. For example, fine hair can be too delicate, while curls can overpower the look. However, loose waves or lightly textured hair types are a perfect match.

Classic Curtain

Curtain bangs give you the option to refresh your style without the stress of an awkward grow-out period. Instead of a sharp cut across the forehead, the look uses fluffy pieces softly cut around the temples to frame the face. The result is an effortless, cozy look that’s easy to maintain at home. To achieve a classic curtain cut, Raciborski says it’s best to start with some length and ask your stylist for a blended cut. “You want them to be longer on the sides and shorter in the middle so they blend into your haircut,” she says.
