New York-born, European former-royalty, Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark is a model, influencer and fashion icon. Part of Greece’s former royal family (the country voted to abolish the monarchy in 1974), Princess Olympia has been a member of the fashion community for years. And at 28, she’s fully owning her style, and her chic bob has developed a fan base in and of itself. If you want to feel like actual (former) royalty, you need her iconic princess bob!

What is the key to the princess bob?

“Princess Olympia’s bob is what I’d call the rich girl bob,” explains celebrity hairstylist and Moroccanoil ambassador Dimitris Giannetos. “It grazes the jaw and gives a slightly A-line with the front a smidge longer than the back, and always styled with a little bend or wave. It’s got that undone-but-done texture, which is never too flat or overdone.”

And in a time when bobs are at the forefront of hair trends, it’s the small details that make the princess bob a look all its own.

“While there’s nothing particularly radical or different to the princess bob, it’s truly in the finishing that makes it unique!” explains celebrity hairstylist and KERASILK ambassador, Harry Josh. “Her blonde hair definitely also has a solid impact that adds to the overall look.”

How to Get and Style the Princess Bob

How would you ask for a princess bob at a salon?

“If you’re asking for it at a salon, I’d tell your stylist you want a soft, chin-length bob with barely-there layering for movement, and style it with a casual, piecey wave,” Giannetos explains.

And if you’re looking for Olympia’s exact princess bob, Josh notes you can’t go wrong with a good photo. “It’s always best to actually show images of what your goal is for your cut to minimize any confusion, rather than relying on trendy haircut names,” he says.

Once you’ve got your cut, Giannetos explains that the princess bob has a simple four-step routine for styling.

“I’d use L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Volume Inject Mousse ($8) on damp hair for body, blow it out with a paddle brush and add soft waves with a flat iron,” he says. “Finish with a mist of L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hair Spray ($16) to lock it in but keep it touchable.”
