As exemplified by a recent lawsuit against professional boxer Floyd Mayweather, Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Rob Gronkowski and teeth-whitening brand Snow, even the toughest of men want white teeth. Claiming that the Snow Accelerating LED Mouthpiece ($69) dramatically whitens the teeth and protects against COVID, the two athletes and the brand were highly exaggerating the product’s efficacy.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the lawsuit’s plaintiff Burton Kraus filed a $5 million class action lawsuit against the three culprits and its founder on Monday, claiming that “the expensive product is fraudulent, cheap, and ineffective.” The lawsuit also charges Snow for participating in a “wide-spread fraudulent scheme to deceive consumers.”
“Mayweather has endorsed the kit numerous times, and has called it ‘the best teeth whitening kit money can buy,'” reports Yahoo! News. Featured on Snow’s website is also a product called “Floyd Mayweather’s Snow Teeth Whitening At-Home System.” Gronkowski’s piece of the puzzle comes down to his promotion of the brand on his Instagram page. He also starred in a one-minute video for Snow where he rapped over the song “Ice Ice Baby” with the LED teeth whitening in his mouth.
“The suit savagely picks apart the claims Snow has made about its products,” notes Yahoo! Sports. “While Snow has ‘unequivocally’ claimed that their teeth-whitening light ‘delivers amazing results,’ Kraus and his attorneys have had the teeth-whitening light tested by an independent lab. Not surprisingly, the suit says the testing shows the the lights to be completely ineffective.” Additionally, its claims for preventing COVID are not only false, but extremely insensitive to the struggle we have endured throughout this year in finding a cure for the infection.
