I’ll admit—when it comes to celebrity beauty brands, I’m often a skeptic. With so many new lines popping up on the daily from celebrities in every niche you can imagine, it can be hard as a beauty editor to put blind faith in skin-care or makeup products from someone other than industry experts or doctors themselves. One celebrity-owned beauty brand that has caught my hesitant eye time and time again, though, is none other than Hailey Bieber’s beloved line, Rhode.
Starting with just three skin-care SKUs back in 2022, Rhode has since expanded into both a skin-care and color cosmetics brand, with an array of best-selling products across both categories. Until recently, I’d dipped my toes in the Rhode waters in the past, but had never given the full line a chance. But, with the brand continuing to be a fan and celebrity favorite now three years post-launch, I decided to put the line to the test by ditching all my skin-care and makeup products for exclusively Rhode for one week. Now on the other side of my experiment, I’ve undoubtedly been convinced of the brand’s allure, and have even found a few products that I predict will remain mainstays in my carefully curated routine.
Rhode Skin Care Review: The 2 Products That Really Blew Me Away
As mentioned before, while testing the line, my skin-care routine consisted of only Rhode products (with the exception of SPF during the day as Rhode doesn’t have an SPF at this moment), so my morning and evening routine went like this: Pineapple Refresh Cleanser ($30), Glazing Milk ($32), Peptide Glazing Fluid ($32), Barrier Restore Cream ($32), Barrier Butter ($38) and Peptide Lip Treatment ($18). Generally, my goal for my skin is to look as dewy and glass-like as possible, so it’s no surprise that Bieber’s skin-care routine won me over initially. I was curious, though, to see if the ultra-hydrating products would break me out over time when used with no other products, and to my pleasant surprise, they did not. Not only do the products give your skin an unreal glow immediately, I was impressed at how well the formulas saturated the skin and kept me looking soft and dewy overtime—it’s easy to layer on products that make you look glowy without actually nourishing for that lit-from-within radiance, but that is not the case with Rhode’s lush, hydrating regimen.
Out of all the Rhode skin-care products, the ones I find myself continuously reaching for even after my beauty experiment are the Pineapple Refresh Cleanser and Barrier Butter. The cleanser has a beautiful lather, removes makeup well and leaves your skin feeling really, really clean without that tight, stripped sensation. While each of the middle-man Rhode skin-care products are lovely on their own, I found that some steps felt a bit duplicitous, specifically the Glazing Milk and Glazing Fluid progression. The Barrier Butter is so incredibly rich and wraps your skin in such a nourishing, radiant formula, that I found myself opting to go from the cleanser to the butter to save time without sacrificing that otherworldly shine.
Rhode Makeup Review: These Products Sold Me
In terms of color cosmetics, Rhode’s current makeup lineup consists of the Pocket Blush ($24), Peptide Lip Tint ($18) and Peptide Lip Shape ($24), and if you’re going for that clean-girl, subtle flush look, this is a great regimen for you. In the photos below, I’m wearing only Rhode color cosmetics with the exception of mascara and a tiny bit of concealer, neither of which Rhode carries yet. I was pretty stunned by the Pocket Blush (which I tried in shade sleepy girl) and have not used another blush since I got my hands on it. Dare I say this was the Rhode product that impressed me the most? I’ve rarely seen such intense yet blendable pigment from a cream blush, and the shades are utterly to die for.
The Peptide Lip Shape has also since earned a regular place in my purse. The formula glides on effortlessly (smooth enough that I’ve used it successfully on the subway and in Ubers) and provides great, lasting color. Plus, I love the smudge tip side for creating that just-bitten look. The Peptide Lip Tint (which I tested in shade pbj) also impressed me with its pigment, but I did find it transferred fairly easily, especially if my hair got stuck on my lips and then touched my face, which was my one qualm with the product. Overall, across makeup and skin-care, Ms. Bieber impressed me—these formulas are deeper than face value, they really work, and if you’re searching for that dewy, glass-skin, clean girl look, it’s worth taking a peek into Bieber’s brain child brand.
