There’s no doubt that confidence comes from within, but sometimes outside factors can give your inner self-esteem a little boost. For one woman, that boost came in the form of a quick visit to her dermatologist, where she underwent a treatment to enhance her lips.
Looking for a plumper pout, Nia Sanchez sought out lip fillers, specifically Restylane Kysse, to achieve her aesthetic goals. “As a Latina, I naturally have full lips, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed the fullness of my lips has started to minimize,” she explains .
If you’re unfamiliar with lip fillers, it might be hard to understand what sets Restylane Kysse apart from other options on the market. Here, we’ll break down exactly what Restylane Kysse is, how it works, and why it might be a good option for you.
What is Restylane Kysse?
Restylane Kysse is a hyaluronic acid filler designed specifically for the lips. It is the first lip filler created with Galderma’s XpresHAn Technology—which uses a cross-linking gel—for improved volume in the lips that’s proven to last up to one year. This technology is ultra-flexible and softly stretches as you move your lips, resulting in a more natural look and feel.
“One of my favorite things with Restylane Kysse is [it’s technology]—the filler actually integrates with your lips’ tissue,” confirms Sanchez.
What kind of results can you expect from Restylane Kysse?
Not only does Restylane Kysse offer more volume in the lips, but it can also improve their lip line to create a more youthful-looking appearance. “Most people want a well-shaped lip, a lip that’s contoured, a lip that gives a little pout and projection, but not just big sausage lips,” says Birmingham, AL dermatologist Corey Hartman, MD. “This product can give you that restoration and smooth out those little wrinkles that start to develop as the lip matures.”
What is an appointment for Restylane Kysse like?
Like any lip filler appointment, your provider will begin your appointment by discussing your aesthetic goals. Once they’ve determined the best filler type and amount to achieve your desired look, the procedure will begin.
First, your provider numbs your lips with numbing cream to help reduce any discomfort during the treatment. Once your lips are numb, the injections can begin.
Once you’re fully injected, your provider will likely massage your top and bottom lip quickly to help prevent the formation of lumps. The whole process is rather quick and the results are immediate.
“After my appointment, my lips felt natural, fuller, softer and overall, I was already in love with them,” says Sanchez.
Are there any possible side effects?
Lip fillers are considered safe, however, side effects for the treatment do still exist. “You could get a bruise, you’re going to have some swelling, there’s a little discomfort when you [get injected],” says Dr. Hartman. “Restylane Kysse is really nice because, in my opinion, most of the swelling goes away within 24 hours,” says Dr. Hartman.
The most commonly observed side effects with Restylane Kysse include swelling, tenderness, bruising, pain, and redness at the injection site. While rare, other side effects are possible as well. This may include the development of scarring, nodules, or infection.
The bottom line
If your lips are an aesthetic concern for you, Restylane Kysse could be a good solution. “Restylane Kysse has really changed the game,” says Dr. Hartman. “I really liked the way that it injects and the way that it behaves.”
As a filler product that looks and feels natural, it’s understandable why Restylane Kysse is such a popular option. After all, it can give you more plush, youthful-looking lips after just one treatment.
“I love Restylane Kysse because I feel like it’s taken me back to the lips of my youth,” says Sanchez, who adds that the lip filler was a total game-changer, making her feel more confident and beautiful. “And my husband loves them too—he’s been coming back for second and third kisses,” she adds.

Important Safety Information
Indication: Restylane® Kysse is indicated for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of upper perioral rhytids in patients over the age of 21. Restylane Kysse contains traces of gram-positive bacterial protein and is contraindicated for patients with allergies to such material or for patients with severe allergies that have required in- hospital treatment. Restylane Kysse should not be used by patients with bleeding disorders, with hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics, such as lidocaine, or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Use of Restylane Kysse at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. The most commonly observed side effects are swelling, tenderness, bruising, pain, and redness at the injection site. These are typically mild in severity and usually resolve within 7 days after treatment. Serious but rare side effects include delayed onset infections, recurrence of herpetic eruptions, and superficial necrosis and scarring at the injection site. Do not implant into blood vessels. Use with caution in patients recently treated with anticoagulant or platelet inhibitors to avoid bleeding and bruising.
Treatment volume should be limited to 1.5 mL per lip per treatment and 1.0 mL for upper perioral rhytid correction, as greater amounts significantly increase moderate and severe injection site reactions. The safety or effectiveness of treatment in areas other than lips and upper perioral rhytids has not been established in controlled clinical studies. Restylane Kysse is only available through a licensed practitioner. Complete Instructions for Use are available at www.RestylaneKysse.com.
