Paris Jackson is celebrating a milestone worth sharing. In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, January 7, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter—and Michael Jackson’s daughter—opened up about her journey to sobriety, reflecting on overcoming alcohol and heroin addiction and the strength it took to get there.
“Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol,” she began the caption of her post. “To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface. It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cats. I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.”
The post was accompanied by a video compilation highlighting her transformation, from her partying days to moments of joy, health and collecting Alcoholics Anonymous milestone tokens. “Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god I can’t believe I almost missed it all,” she wrote, closing her caption with “1 • 7 • 20,” the day she committed to sobriety.
The comments section quickly filled with support from fellow celebrities and fans. Lucy Hale, who has also been candid about her own sobriety journey, wrote, “You’re amazing amazing amazing,” while Paris Hilton shared, “So proud of you sis.” Fans echoed their sentiments, thanking Jackson for her vulnerability and courage in sharing her story.
