If you need some end-of-year motivation, look no further than Mari Llewellyn’s social media. After documenting her impressive health-slash-mental health journey of losing 90 pounds, the very popular, very-open, Instagram sensation has a new spot in the wellness space via her brand, Bloom Nutrition—a not-so-small company that can already ships 100,000-orders monthly and stands as the best-selling greens powder on Amazon to date. This October, they’ll launch a very “on-the-go” option with the new Green Sticks (they’ll also be available at Target) and, as Llewellyn told us, “It’s just the beginning” of something much bigger.

You’ve become the “poster girl” for before-and-after images on social media. What was the most surprising takeaway during your rise in popularity?

Prior to my fitness journey, I was not an avid social media user. I went from keeping my weight loss mostly private to sharing intimate details about my mental and physical transformation. I was surprised by the initial interest, but I was even more surprised when my community continued to grow for reasons beyond my weight-loss story.

I began sharing more of my personal life with my husband, our business, travel, etc. My community helped us ideate for new Bloom products, choose rugs for our home, contributed to our wedding planning, and everything else. It surprises me every day just how committed my community is—and I’m forever grateful for them. Hearing their stories inspires and fulfills me more than I could have ever imagined.

How did working out change for you during COVID?

COVID removed an integral part of my routine: the gym. Suddenly, I was finding new methods of working out. Whether it was running up and down stairs at the local park, to at home workouts in my living room. I began sharing simple at-home workouts to my community—it was a beautiful way to come together during a tough time. It also reinforced my interest in overall health and wellness and how important it is in our daily lives.

How do you respond to negative commentary?

Negative commentary has become a normality on social media. Generally, I try not to feed into feedback too much: positive or negative. I think it’s important to stay true to who YOU are and post the things you want to post. I also try to have empathy for people spreading hate on the internet, oftentimes they are hurting in their own lives.

What are some of your favorite wellness products?

You now have a full line with Bloom. What is your dream product to make?

Our Greens are everyone’s favorite Bloom product for bloating, digestion, hangovers, all the things! We’re so excited to introduce single-serve, travel-sized stick packs! I always have some in my gym bag, purse, in my carryon when I’m traveling—these packs are perfect for taking on-the-go.
