What does vacation smell like? Salty seawater sundried on your skin in Hawaiia. Hot, buttered croissants in a Parisian bakery storefront. Pungent spices overflowing from wood barrels in an outdoor market in Dubai. No matter what the fragrance is that reminds you of your favorite summer excursion or winter escape, most would agree that the scent of vacation, is the scent of freedom.
That’s why naturally, we want to experience that same aroma, even when we aren’t jetting around the world. After all, scent is connected to memory, and why not remember our fondest memories? Respected perfumer Histoires de Parfums knows this. That’s why they’ve released a new collection for spring-The Scent of Departure ($45).
Twenty of the world’s greatest cities-from Los Angeles to Vienna-and their corresponding Eau de Toilettes are captured in glass bottles that look like baggage claim tags. After all, haven’t you ever “dreamed of catching the essence of your travel?” asks the perfumer. Whether it’s the lilac and rose from Central Park or the white musk of the Meiji Jingu and Asakusa Shrines of Japan that you wish to spritz on your décolletage in the morning, you will be transported to a place other than your work desk.
