Country-music sensation Lainey Wilson made a statement at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. Nominated for both Female Artist of the Year and Female Country Artist of the Year, Wilson paired her wild Roberto Cavalli jumpsuit with barely there makeup and a hint of rugged charm. Here’s the story behind the look.
“Dusty Cowgirl Glam:” The Inspiration
Celebrity makeup artist Jess Berrios, the creative mind behind Wilson’s “Dusty Cowgirl” glam, says the star’s red-carpet look was all about “sculpted, glowing skin with a soft smokey eye, and a neutral ’90s lip.” When it came time for Wilson to perform, Berrios “dirtied it up for the dusty cowgirl vibe.”
“Lainey’s glam is always about enhancing her features in a way that allows HER god-given beauty to shine, so you see Lainey and not the makeup.”
Lainey Wilson’s People’s Choice Awards Makeup Breakdown
For Wilson’s skin prep, Berrios relied on Beauty Pie sheet masks ($70 for five), Youthbomb Radiance Serum ($185), and Smooth Ahead Lip Balm ($30) to prep for makeup.
To create a flawless base, Tom Ford Beauty foundation was paired with Hourglass Vanish Concealer ($36) to conceal any imperfections seamlessly. Wilson’s lips were topped with a combination of Charlotte Tilbury lip liner in Icon Baby ($25.50) and Pink Lily Lip Oil in shade The Nude ($16) “for that iconic hydrated nude lip.”
Berrios crafted Wilson’s smokey eye using Danessa Myricks Groundwork Palette ($65), which she calls “the ultimate multi-use smokey palette.” GXVE cream eyeshadow in Pogo ($20) was applied for “extra dusty smoke,” and Thrive Cosmetics Tubing Mascara ($25) ensured her lashes remained voluminous and curled throughout the evening.
For highlight, Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter ($49) offered a natural glow that accentuated Wilson’s features. For a head-to-toe glow, Berrios applied Melanie Mills body makeup in Rose Gold ($45) for a healthy look.
Of course, no red-carpet look is complete without flawless hair. Wilson’s strands were styled into elegant waves using KMS Wave Foam, and held in place with Moroccanoil Medium Hairspray ($26).
