Intricate hair (and hats, veils, crowns and halos) ruled the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, but leave it to Jennifer Lopez to make a statement sans even the simplest headpiece. The singer showed up to the fashion event of the year with her shortest cut in recent history—an above-the-shoulder blunt lob—and officially confirmed that this hot hair trend lives on for another season. Lorenzo Martin for Matrix chopped Lopez’s hair for the event, saying that the duo decided to go for the new look to better accentuate Lopez’s Balmain dress. While many celebs have preferred to style the cut in low-key beachy waves, Lopez’s polished, sleek ‘do proves this versatile cut can hold its own, even at the most formal of events.
