On the precipice of Halsey’s fifth album, the star took to Instagram to share something she’s been struggling with privately. The caption of the candid post reads, “Long story short, I’m Lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album,” with tags to Lupus Research Alliance and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, both of which she’s donating to as her first single from the new album drops.
The first video in Halsey’s post is an intimate glimpse into life at home with the 29-year-old mother of one as she’s combatting Lupus, a condition Selena Gomez has also been diagnosed with. “I feel like an old lady,” Halsey says, rubbing her aching legs. She goes on to say, “I told myself, I’m giving myself two more years to be sick. At 30 I’m having a rebirth, and I’m not going to be sick, and I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy, and I’m just going to get to redo my twenties in my thirties.”
Her new song “The End” alludes to the other health crises she’s faced, including endometriosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, known as POTS, notes Associated Press.
Halsey has also often been candid about her mental health. She’s gone on record discussing her in-patient mental health treatment, bipolar disorder diagnosis and medication journey. Halsey has endlessly persevered through peaks and valleys and subsequently let fans into the behind-the-scenes via her music, and it seems the next album may be the rawest yet.
