Over the weekend, Gwen Stefani took to Instagram to share her limited edition sky blue Bouquet vinyl with her nearly 18 million followers, along with a surprising new jellyfish haircut.

Yes, you read that right. The jellyfish haircut is a bold style defined by choppy layers on top with longer hair underneath, designed to mimic the look of the sea creature. “The top layer is cut short like a bowl cut, representing the body of a jellyfish,” celebrity hairstylist Ashley Gomila told NewBeauty in a previous interview. “The bottom layer is left long, mimicking the tentacles. This striking contrast creates a dramatic, edgy look that’s perfect for those seeking a unique style.”

As seen in her Instagram Reel, the “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker styled her hair sleek and center-parted, accessorized with barrettes that matched her hair at eyebrow level. The shortest layer fell in a blunt cut at her chin, while the second layer rested just above her shoulders—and true to the jellyfish cut, the remainder of her long hair was styled straight.

The jellyfish cut shares some similarities with the equally statement-making wolfcut or mullet. “The jellyfish haircut is all about making a bold statement,” Matrix celebrity stylist Castillo Bataille told NewBeauty previously. “It combines short layers on top—think bob or mullet vibes—with long, sleek lengths underneath. The contrast is dramatic and edgy, just like a jellyfish floating in the water.”

Will you be next to try the hair trend? This sure is one trend that’s perfect for those torn between lengths.
