When a new product line shows up at my front door, I'm usually a bit hesitant to start using it in full without knowing the ins-and-outs of what I'm about to apply on my sensitive skin. Cleen Beauty, however, tickled my ingredient fancy as soon as I opened the box and read about the off-the-radar active of PHA it used as the cornerstone in formulating its line. It only took trying it to be hooked, and now I simply can't get enough (which I'm fine with because repurchasing won't break the bank).
The two products in the line—there's a cleanser and a toner—are formulated pretty similarly: they both have chlorophyll, responsible for giving the products their sea-green color and blemish-fighting properties, and PHA—polyhydroxy acid, which, despite how the name sounds, is extremely gentle on the skin while still being powerful enough to slough off a buildup of dead skin and impurities. Because the products have a similar DNA, they make a great team in clearing the skin.
The Cleen Beauty PHA Foaming Face Cleanser ($7) is a lusciously smooth foam that 1) smells like a spa and 2) deeply cleanses the skin without any signs of stripping. Outside of the cleanser’s two main ingredients, it also includes willow bark extract, which is both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, along with the regenerative clover flower extract to deeply nourish. I’ve been using this at night and I feel refreshed and moisturized at the same time (if you didn’t already know, that’s pretty hard to achieve).
Next in line is the Cleen Beauty PHA Face Toner ($7). This all-in-one product is made to cleanse, tone, exfoliate and nourish the skin in one shot. It includes niacinamide, an essential nutrient for the skin that helps to minimize signs of pore congestion, along with witch hazel to balance and calm the skin post-cleanse. I usually stray away from washing my face in the morning, but I’ve been swiping this across my face post-snooze and it’s the perfect skin care pick-me-up for the days when I feel like I need a little bit of oomph.
