Until now, dry shampoo was available in two formulations: a spray, which allows you to target exactly where you want the product but can leave behind white residue, and powders, which can be a bit on the messy side if you don’t apply them correctly.
However, the introduction of foaming dry shampoos is about to change all of that, and we promise you’re going to love them just as much as the standard versions.
Brands like OUAI and Drybar have recently released foaming dry shampoos, and for good reason, too. According to Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist and creator of OUAI Haircare, the reason for making a foam dry shampoo formula came down to the fact that so many women (herself included) are actually dry shampoo abusers—scary! “I wanted to create something next-level that could leave hair feeling clean without the powdery buildup. I had heard that in hospitals they sometimes wash patients that can’t bathe themselves with foam and that sparked the idea for the FOAM-ula,” she says.
Acting in the same manner as a spray or powder, the new foam versions even offer more benefits. “The new Dry Shampoo Foam ($28) is for extending between washes three to four days. It’s dry shampoo on steroids,” says Atkin. “This cleanses and freshens your hair instead of just covering up oil at the root, adds an amazing burst of scent and volume. You need it in your purse, your gym bag and in your hair right now.”
