To celebrate the queen of comedy’s 70th birthday, we rounded up some of the best beauty tips she’s shared throughout the years that keep her looking and feeling her best.
Catherine O’Hara’s Best Beauty Advice
There’s nothing like a good facial
If there’s one beauty treatment O’Hara never shies away from its a good facial, and as a client of iconic celebrity facialist and skin-care expert Joanna Vargas, you know she’s getting five-star service. Back in 2020, Vargas let NewBeauty in on the exact facial she uses to prep O’Hara’s skin for red carpets and award shows. O’Hara opts for Vargas’ Triple Crown Facial—a 60-minute treatment that features a sculpting microcurrent facial to lift and firm, microdermabrasion to remove dead skin cells and enhance glow, and finally another round of microcurrent and a shot of vitamin-rich oxygen for an out-of-this-world lift and glow.
She swears by skin care, not surgery
While plenty of A-listers today have cosmetic treatments they can’t live without, for O’Hara, high-end skin care is her preferred method of preserving her skin. Since the early 2000s, O’Hara has been adamant about her lack of cosmetic procedures, and in 2022 she reiterated to Entertainment Tonight Canada that “I’m a freak in that I’ve never had anything done to my face,” she told the Canadian outlet. “I don’t want to get surgery and I don’t want to get needles, other than acupuncture needles. I believe we should embrace and respect age and love ourselves for it.”
Her makeup artist carefully curates her product lineup
When you’re constantly on camera, it is of the utmost importance to have a makeup artist who understands your needs, and for O’Hara, working with makeup artist Lucky Bromhead through all six seasons of Schitt’s Creek allowed for the artist to find exactly the right products for Catherine’s skin. Back in 2020, Bromhead told Refinery29 that “budge-proof, foolproof cosmetics are crucial for working with O’Hara, who is perhaps one of the most expressive comedic actors in Hollywood.” When it comes to budge-proof face products, Bromhead swears by MAC Cosmetics’ Prep + Prime ($36) before going in with foundation, and finishing with the brand’s Fix+ Setting Spray ($33).
She has a healthy perspective on aging
As we all know, beauty comes from the inside out, and it all starts with a healthy mindset, which O’Hara has down to a science. While she admits that a large part of the reason she’s never gotten any work done is her fear of needles in her face, O’Hara’s positive mindset on aging also plays a role. “I’m lucky to be alive, so I don’t mind aging,” she told Entertainment Tonight Canada.
