At 56, British Vogue cover star and Hollywood icon Julia Roberts says she credits her graceful aging to “good genes” and her husband Danny Moder. The star sat down with longtime friend, Notting Hill screenwriter Richard Curtis for a candid conversation only friends of a quarter century could have. When Curtis asks her secret to eternal youth the star replied, “No— serious answer. Good genes, leading a life that is fulfilling, and I have said this—and I say it usually as kind of a joke—but I do believe in the love of a good man."

Rather than drop her skin care or anti-aging treatment plan, Roberts stressed that feeling fulfilled has kept her looking her best over time. “I believe that my husband loves me and cares for me in a way that makes me feel deeply, deeply happy. And anytime you see someone who’s happy, it doesn’t matter how old they are.”

The star also credits her parents for passing on their excellent DNA, but that didn’t stop her from marveling at what she used to look like. “Both [have] very good genes. Not to say I’m unchanged, because I did see a picture earlier of Tom Hanks and me from a movie, and we looked like we had been ironed."

When it comes to aging in general, Roberts shared a philosophy she adopted from a famous friend. "Anouk Aimée said to me, many years ago when I was very young and it didn’t occur to me that I would ever have a wrinkle, 'You live your face in your life until you’re 50, and then you live your life on your face.’"
