Need proof? Victoria’s Secret model Devon Windsor recently took to Snapchat to show off her weird skin care secret for banishing blackheads—using Pepto Bismol.

“Pepto Bismol on your nose will help tighten/get rid of blackheads and pores,” Windsor captioned a selfie on her Snapchat account, showing off a pink, medicine-covered nose.

Now, before you toss this skin care tip aside as a useless hack, know that there is some truth to it. While this may sound a bit crazy, Pepto Bismol actually contains salicylic acid, which is a major acne fighter, and aspirin, which helps reduce inflammation.

However, New York dermatologist Debra Jaliman, MD, isn’t the biggest fan of the practice. “There are so many other inexpensive, over-the-counter products that contain salicylic acid that can be used instead that are better preparations for skin,” she explains. “These products are superior because they are specifically made to interact with the skin and to be better absorbed by the skin, and formulated to not irritate the skin in any way.”

So, while this beauty hack may work as a last resort, try to stick to skin care products that are specifically made for fighting acne.
