A Permanent Solution for Oily Skin May Be Here Sooner Than You Think

For those who suffer from oily skin, there’s nothing worse than having to stop what your doing (normally midday) to sop up the oil that has gathered on your face. While they say those with oily skin won’t have to deal with as many lines and wrinkles later on life (the excessive sebum is thought to keep the skin naturally hydrated), dealing with the present effects of oily skin can leave your complexion looking constantly shiny and make your makeup do a disappearing act.

It’s a known fact that there’s an association between oily skin and acne. When too much oil (sebum) is produced, it can clog your pores and become a key player in the formation of a pimple. For years, we’ve relied on the same ingredients—retinol, benzyol peroxide, sulfur and salicylic acid—to treat acneic skin. But a new molecule, DRM01, may be the clear-skin holy grail for those who suffer from oil-induced acne.

Formulated to treat an enzyme structure that plays a role in the creation of fatty acids, which are components of sebum, DRM01 is thought to be able to reduce oil production in the sebaceous glands, in turn leading to less oil production and fewer breakouts. While it’s still in clinical trials and has yet to receive FDA-approval, this new molecule, which is expected to be available in topical form, could finally put a stop to excessively oily skin that leads to breakouts.
