A show jam-packed with celebrities from across all walks of entertainment, the People’s Choice Awards has a red carpet known for playful beauty looks and top-tier fashion statements. Now that awards season is well underway after a strange year of industry negotiation, we’re all extra excited to see what the stars have to bring to the event. Taking a look back at People’s Choice Awards looks that have made waves and set trends, we’ve gathered the most impactful and note-worthy moments in PCA fashion history.

How to Watch the People’s Choice Awards 2024

The 2024 People’s Choice Awards will air on NBC and E!, and will be streaming on Peacock, airing at 8/7 p.m. central with the red carpet beginning at 7/6 p.m. central.

The awards themselves haven’t been held in February since 1996, and we’re more than a little excited to see how the stars meet the late-winter, early-spring moment. Of course, since it’s held in the idyllic Santa Monica, everyone will be spared the sudden snow and cold that much of the country is currently mired in. The shift in the calendar slot is all about placing the show in the thick of the awards season, according to Cassandra Tryon, senior vice president, entertainment live events, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

“Moving the telecast to the heart of awards season and expanding our reach to Peacock’s audience creates a platform for the people’s voice to be heard louder than ever, giving stars and their fans an opportunity to celebrate together,” Tryon told Billboard.

The People’s Choice Awards 2024 Icon

Adam Sandler to Receive the Coveted PCA Icon Award

One of the biggest awards of the night, the Icon Awards, has (unsurprisingly) played host to some of the most iconic moments in People’s Choice Awards history. From Betty White getting Captain America himself, Chris Evans, to help her on stage to accept her 2015 award, to Vin Diesel’s emotional farewell to costar and longtime friend Paul Walker, the Icon Award is always a news-making moment.

This year, the award goes to renowned comedian and actor, Adam Sandler. Acknowledging a decades-spanning career in film and television, the 2024 People’s Icon Award highlights Sandler’s recent dramatic work, for which he’s received wide critical acclaim, as well as his more recent works, including the Netflix original, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.

On the PCA Icon Awards

What does being a People’s Icon mean to the winners?

“If I have any claim to this word ‘icon,’ it’s only because I was able to be on an iconic show with an iconic cast and an iconic haircut,” Jennifer Aniston said during her acceptance speech in 2019. “You believed in us, you really did, and you believed in those very impossibly large apartments…You paved the way for everything that I’ve had a chance to do since and it feels so good, also, that I get to be back on television, where it all started. Thank you for being on this journey with me … I love you guys.”

Last year, the Music Icon Award went to industry-powerhouse Shania Twain, who stole our hearts with her 90s-throwback look and career-spanning performance.

“Oh my gosh, this is such a privilege and a dream! Am I dreaming?” Twain asked during her acceptance. “Thank you so much for presenting me with this award and highlighting my work for having a significant impact.”

The People’s Choice Awards Looks We Loved

The People’s Choice Awards celebrates stars from across the entertainment industry, and their looks range just as much as the stars themselves. You’re just as likely to see a stunning pantsuit as you are a little black dress, and we love the creativity and joy fashion designers and stylists have for this carpet. The looks we loved run the gambit from the show-stoppingly extravagant to the perfect mood-board inspo, and we’re sure this year will add some new favorites to our lineup.

Dolly Parton, 1988

If there’s ever been a look Dolly hasn’t entirely nailed, no there hasn’t.

Everything from the big blonde hair (we see your inspiration, Miley) to the dripping pearls, to her 1000 watt smile makes this look one of Parton’s most luxurious. Parton loved white and silver in this era, leaning into opulent hourglass gowns that showered her in jewels, pearls and rhinestones.

Accepting the Favorite Female Performer Award that year, Parton’s look brings elegant to country and country to the red carpet, and we are 100-percent on board.

Sandra Bullock, 1996

Okay, we could have picked almost any Bullock appearance on the People’s Choice Awards red carpet. But this one doesn’t just redefine lingerie luxury (which has since exploded into the world of the naked dress), it’s also adorable. Everything from the short cut to the cute updo brings a sweet All-American-Girl quality to what is otherwise an objectively sexy outfit.

Winning Favorite Motion Picture Actress for Speed, Bullock’s speech was all about never growing up, saying that it lets her “laugh at almost anything the world has to offer.”

Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, 2000

A perfect pair in black satin, Friends stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow were peak 2000 on the People’s Choice Awards red carpet. Aniston’s iconic hairstyle is sleek and shiny beneath the lights, while Kudrow’s updo compliments the heavy pearl necklace she chose.

We love the little black dress vibes Aniston brought to the carpet, and Kudrow’s more relaxed sweater paired with her black satin skirt creates a glam you’d probably find right now on my Pinterest board.

Taylor Swift, 2013

Taylor Swift has been killing us dead with her fashion for over a decade now, and if that doesn’t make you feel a little old, maybe this flashback from 2013 will do the trick.

Accepting for Favorite Country Artist (yes, we did consider her a country artist for a long time), Swift’s structured white gown and plunging neckline create a powerful silhouette. That look was only heightened with her pinned back hair and sultry smokey eye.

Laverne Cox, 2022

Hosting the red carpet for the People’s Choice Awards, actress Laverne Cox absolutely stunned in this Olive Butterfly Princess dress from Collina Strada‘s 2022 collection. The dirty blonde up-do she chose for the event complements the murky greens in the dress, creating a golden glow that plays off of her accents and jewelry.

The hips are definitely the draw to this botanical gown, creating a kind of nature-themed Marie Antoinette look that had us floored.

Shania Twain, 2022

Belly-baring, mesh and leopard print? Count us in!

Shania Twain’s red carpet look for the 2022 People’s Choice Awards took us back in time with a twist, calling back to her late 90s style in a new, elegant way. The Rodarte gown featured a mesh midsection that showed off her eternally ageless figure, while leopard accents created a stylish hood across pastel pink hair.

Taking us on a tour of her greatest hits later that night, it only made sense that her red carpet look was inspired by some of the most iconic moods and moments from her 90s wardrobe.
