Going makeup-free on social media has become one of the most honest and relatable moves celebrities can make these days. While icons like Pamela Anderson are fully embracing a makeup-free lifestyle, it’s still not the norm in Hollywood, with occasional exceptions. Stars like Demi Lovato, Megan Fox, Kristin Davis and Amy Schumer have all shared their natural beauty on social media and the latest to join them is Alyssa Milano, keeping up with her annual tradition of posting a makeup-free birthday selfie.
“This is 52. No make up. No filters. Happiness. Sprinkle that sh*t everywhere,” Milano captioned her Instagram grid post. “I love you all. Even the trolls. If you can hate a stranger—I can love a stranger. So…I love you.”
Of course, as promised, the trolls made their way into the comments section. One person wrote, “There’s makeup on your eyebrows,” prompting Milano to edit the original caption to clarify: “Yes, my eyebrows are micro-bladed.” (For the uninitiated, microblading is a semipermanent brow tattoo procedure that deposits pigment into the skin, making it impossible to remove for a makeup-free selfie.)
Thankfully, Milano’s fans drowned out the critics with supportive messages. “I love it when you share pics without makeup or filters. You’re gorgeous!” one person wrote. Another added, “Natural beauty – and those eyebrows! 🙌.”
As mentioned, this isn’t the first time the actress and activist has gone makeup-free on her birthday. She’s done so for the last few years, with perhaps the most sentimental being her 50th birthday post. At the time, she shared: “This is 50. No filter. No touching up. No make up. I will spend this day, the same as every day. I will move a little, love a lot, be of service, and count my blessings.
I’m happy to be here. Right here. Right now. In this time. In my time. In your time.
There’s still so much to look forward to! And you know what? It’s even been okay to look back where I’ve been, where I came from, how far I’ve come, who came into my life and who stayed.”
