Alison Sweeney Reveals the One Change You Have to Make to Lose Weight Successfully featured image

Former “The Biggest Loser” host Alison Sweeney, who’s also gone through a life-changing transformation herself, knows a thing or two about the healthy way to change your body (Hint: It’s not weight loss pills). NewBeauty grabbed a minute with Sweeney to chat about what it really takes to make the change.

NewBeauty: Having hosted “The Biggest Loser” for so long, have you seen any common themes about what it really takes for people to get healthy and change their lives?
Alison Sweeney: My biggest theme is that you have to want it. Rather than trying fad diets or making New Year’s resolutions, the key is to want to live a healthy life each day when you wake up. If you schedule your workouts, have healthy snacks readily available and realize that taking care of yourself is the most important thing to do, you’ll get healthy and change your life and the life of your family.

Another key thing is to have a routine—everything from brushing your teeth (she’s an ambassador for ARM & HAMMER Truly Radiant Clean and Fresh) in the morning and at night to getting a good night’s sleep. Set your mind to think of those healthy things as just part of the routine instead of making them a big mental obstacle or punishment.

NB: Are there any fitness or diet tricks you learned from “The Biggest Loser” that you didn’t know before?
AS: As a parent, I’ve learned to have my behavior be a model for what I’m hoping for my children. We make a point of having routines, knowing portion control, limiting treats and realizing that a “treat” can be a great game of tag, not just an ice cream cone.

NB: You’ve said before that home cooking has really changed how you eat. Are there any simple dinners that you swear by that everyone can make?
AS: Yes…we love fajitas! Anything on the grill. I post a ton of what we make with recipes on my Instagram.

NB: How have you seen the body positive movement change in the past couple years?
AS: I think there’s a change of focus from skinny to strong, which I love. It’s so important to set healthy positive goals for yourself instead of negative feelings of not being good enough.
