You may able to get away with packing light if you’re getting ready for a warm winter vacation but if you’re heading somewhere tropical for the holidays, you’ll need to worry about more than just swimsuits and sandals. High heat and humidity can cause serious bad-hair days. Miami hair stylist, Vaso Spirou of Salon Vaso is known for taming unruly locks in South Florida’s hot and humid weather. Spirou shared with us her best tips on keeping hair smooth and shiny in the heat.
Color Gloss: A great way to control unruly hair in searing temperatures is with color gloss. Spirou says color glossing is the secret to keeping hair healthy and full of shine during hot, humid days. She recommends using color gloss treatments on your hair as often as once every six weeks, even if it’s just a clear gloss.
At-Home Care: After shampooing and conditioning your hair, Spirou suggests rinsing well with cold water and using the cold button on your blow dryer. This cool down will calm your hair cuticle and give extra shine. Spirou advises to steer clear from products that have creamy consistencies and suggests giving your hair a quick spritz of shine spray instead.
Essential Oils: According to Spirou, essential oils are great for maintaining smooth, shiny hair. Her favorite product for frizz-free locks is Alfaparf Illuminating Essential Oil. This oil will protect your strands while adding some shine. Spirou’s secret is to dilute an ampule of the oil in a spray bottle with water and spritz on your hair before going out in the sun.
