When it comes to knowing what’s in and what’s out in the world of hair, Johnny Ramirez and Anh Co Tran, co-owners of Ramirez Tran Salon in Los Angeles and L’Oréal Professionnel international stylists, are the people you look to. Here’s what they had to say about the latest in cuts, colors and styles.

The biggest trend Ramirez and Tran say that’s about to blow up? “It’s all about embracing natural texture,” says Tran. “Most people want to spend less time doing their hair, which is perfect with this trend because all you have to do is towel-dry your hair, apply some product and let dry naturally!” We saw this trend begin to develop this year, but in 2017, it will be the look.
In terms of which products are best for this, Tran prefers using L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil on towel-dried hair. “It’s lightweight and can help to accentuate shine and movement in the hair without weighing it down,” he says. “Another favorite of mine is L’Oréal Professionnel French Girl Hair. It’s a cream-based product that can give a little added kick to all hair textures. Apply it on damp hair, concentrating it on your ends and working your way up to your roots.”

For color trends, Ramirez says “lived-in” color will be the most in-demand look of the year. “Subtly taking your color up and down depending on the season is an effortless, timeless look that you can maintain all year long. Ask your stylist to ‘kiss your hair up’ (add babylights around your face), as I call it, for spring and summer, and then ‘kiss it down a pinch’ (add natural-looking lowlights) to make your hair a bit darker for fall and winter.”
Accessories can also take a hairstyle to the next level, and according to Tran, there’s one you should be wearing this year. “I’m a big fan of weather-appropriate fashion, and during winter, it’s the perfect time to incorporate a beanie into your hair arsenal. Lived-in waves paired with a cute beanie can make a whole look!”
