The MACS lift is making its way from Europe to the U.S., and while it does use threads to restore a younger visage to the mid-face, jowls and neck, this is not a thread lift.

Through incisions in the temple, and possibly the sideburn region, a MACS lift places strategic suture loops to anchor the muscle and soft tissue beneath the skin to a higher, more youthful position. Thread lifts treat only the skin, gathering it with tension to create a subtle lift.

The MACS lift uses absorbable sutures in a looped fashion, to reposition deeper facial tissues. One loop specifically lifts the neck, one lifts the jowls, and a third, higher loop can elevate and round out a higher, more youthful cheek zone. The results are similar to a more traditional facelift, where the muscles and other anatomies are treated, but without significantly separating the skin, fatty layer and muscle. In addition, skin that is reduced is typically elevated vertically, eliminating the need for an incision behind the ear, and rendering the procedure very ponytail-friendly.
