For beach lovers, summer is one of the best times of the year, when you can spend your weekends on the sand and in the ocean, enjoying the warm weather and water alike. Now, if you also happen to be a beauty lover, bringing a little bit of that summery, ocean-inspired vibe to your manicure is a fun way to keep the vacation going all season long. The trend to keep an eye on this summer? Ocean nails, which leading beauty and wellness booking platform Fresha reports as one of the most popular rising manicure trends. Just in the past month, searches for the term “ocean nails” have climbed to nearly 80,000, up nearly 30 percent year over year.
Why Are Ocean Nails Trending?
Consumers are looking for summertime nail inspiration that feels fresh, escapist and holiday-ready. According to Danielle Louise, a beauty expert at Fresha, the rise reflects a shift away from darker winter colors toward glossy, playful shades.
“Sheer blues, aqua tones, pearly finishes and watery chrome effects all give that ocean-inspired look without feeling too overdone,” Louise adds. “It’s a trend that can work whether someone wants something subtle and glossy or more detailed nail art that feels holiday-inspired.” Beachy blue tones and sea-glass finishes—especially with shimmer or chrome powder—help catch the light.
How to Wear Ocean Nails
Ocean nails are wearable, from realistic beachy scenes to more interpretive shades of blue. “One of the reasons ocean nails are doing so well is that they’re versatile,” says Louise. “You can wear them as a soft wash of blue, a pearl finish, a chrome effect or with more detailed shell and wave-inspired nail art. They feel trend-led, but still pretty and easy to wear.”
“That matters because people want nail trends that look elevated but still fit everyday life,” Louise adds. “Ocean nails manage to feel seasonal and statement-making without being hard to pull off.”
