Between a Prabal Gurung sequined black suit and a sparkly-sultry gunmetal eye, Kate McKinnon went a little bit rock ‘n’ roll when she hit the Golden Globes tonight and celebrity makeup artist Cassandra Garcia credits fake lashes to tying everything together.

According to Garcia, to add fullness and length to McKinnon’s natural lashes, she used Lashify 12mm natural-style “A” Gossamers and 14mm dense and intense “B” Gossamers. To accentuate the smoldering eye, she applied the longer B14 lashes to the outer corners of McKinnon’s eyes and kept the medium-length A12s concentrated in the middle and inner corners.

“They’re really whisp-y and kind of taper at the ends, so it really does give the illusion of your natural lashes, just better,” says Garcia, who coupled the look with Bobbi Brown shadow and the brand’s Luxe Matte Lip Color in Nude Reality. “They’re totally invisible to the eye, and it also gave me more room to get that smoldering look on the rest of the lid.”

“Lashes really complement a look, and a lot of times when you do a smoky eye, you kind of lose the lashes because of the darker shadow, so giving a little bit more length and volume to get that beautiful fluttery-ness is so important.”
