Through all 12 of Mariska Hargitay’s outfit (and wig) changes at last night’s Emmy Awards—yes, you read that right—one thing stayed exactly the same: her radiant, second-skin makeup. The artist behind the look, celebrity makeup artist Kate Synnott, walked NewBeauty through her full prep routine and the products that got Hargitay red-carpet ready.
Drugstore Skin Prep
Synnott wanted Hargitay’s skin to feel “really hydrated and beautifully plumped” before any makeup touched her face. She started with Cetaphil Nourishing Oil to Foam Cleanser ($9), followed by Cetaphil Skin Activator Hydrating & Firming Lotion ($12) “from head to toe, paying special attention to the neck, shoulders, arms and décolletage.”
She finished with Cetaphil Skin Activator Hydrating & Firming Cream ($17), which Synnott calls “an important part of her pre-glam routine.” “It helps activate surface skin cells while providing 72-hour hydration and leaving the skin looking smoother and firmer,” she says. “After giving each product a few minutes to absorb, her skin felt nourished, soft and perfectly prepared for makeup.”
The Lineup
For skin, Synnott relied on IT Cosmetics’ fleet of multitasking products: the brand's new Do It All Sheer Tint Face Balm ($34), Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream ($39) for extra spot coverage, Do It All Concealer ($30), Bye Bye Pores Bronzer ($36) across the cheekbones and Blush ($29) swept “upward toward the temples.”
To fill in sparse brows, she used Brow Power ($26), then built drama at the eyes by layering Superhero No-Tug Shadow Sticks ($25) in Copper Charisma and Fearless Umber, “blending them out for a warm, hazy smoky effect.” Superhero Liner ($25) extended the shape into a “sleek feline wing,” finished with Superhero Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara ($28) for volume and length.
“With the eyes taking center stage, I chose a softer lip, using Do It All Lip Transformer ($29) in Pretty in Rose to gently enhance Mariska's natural lip shape and create a fuller-looking, polished finish.”
The Mature-Makeup Must
Asked which product she loves most for mature skin, Synnott didn’t hesitate: she’s “in love” with the Do It All Sheer Tint Face Balm. “It’s actually 92 percent skin care with collagen peptide that addresses the needs of mature skin over time,” she says of the 4-in-1 skin care–makeup hybrid. “It's super lightweight and blendable and gives a radiant finish.” That, plus an added 24 hours of hydration thanks to hyaluronic acid and vitamin E? We’re in.
