Amazon is officially getting in on the GLP-1 boom—and for many, the bigger surprise is that it didn’t happen sooner. Announced Tuesday, April 21, its primary care arm, Amazon One Medical, unveiled a new weight-loss management program aimed at making these medications easier to access and more convenient to manage.
Part of that effort centers on cost transparency. Through Amazon Pharmacy, certain GLP-1 medications may be available with insurance for as low as $25 per month, depending on coverage, while some oral options start around $149 for cash-pay patients. Injectable options, including Wegovy and Zepbound, start closer to $299 per month without insurance. All prescriptions can be delivered directly to your door, with same-day delivery available in thousands of cities.
If you’re not an Amazon One Medical patient, you can still access 24/7 telehealth for prescription renewals. Starting at $29 for message consultations or $49 for video visits, this option is meant for those who already have a GLP-1 prescription and need an easier way to maintain it.
If prescribed, treatment is then folded into ongoing care through Amazon One Medical. As the company explains, the program “combines primary care, pharmacy and virtual options to treat obesity as a chronic condition—all in one place.”
To get started, patients book an initial appointment to determine candidacy. Those who may qualify for GLP-1 receptor agonists—such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound—typically include individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or 27 and above with weight-related conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol or sleep apnea.
“Providing customers with fast, convenient medication access and clear, transparent pricing is integral to how Amazon Pharmacy is transforming the pharmacy experience," said Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy. It’s a move that makes you wonder what took Amazon so long.
