Heading to the spa to get a Botox injection or maybe a facial filler? If the American Medical Association has any say, those spas may soon be subject to stricter oversight. The AMA House of Delegates voted on a resolution to urge medical organizations to strive for stricter regulation of medical spas that offer cosmetic medical procedures as well as injections, fillers, laser and intense pulsed light treatments, according to Skin & Allergy News. The vote came during the Delegates’ interim meeting, held in New Orleans.

AMA wants to ensure practitioners receive appropriate training supervision and oversight, in response to recent growing concern about public safety. Indeed, reports of botched surgeries and dangerous injections have increased, and NewBeauty experts have recently spoken out about the importance of choosing qualified, trained and experienced physicians when seeking aesthetic procedures.
