Trader Joe's is one of our favorite grocery stores, offering everything from the beloved Everything But The Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend and cauliflower gnocchi to eucalyptus branches for an everything shower and even beauty products. Another fan favorite: their seasonal candles. However, despite our love for their potent scents, Trader Joe's has issued a recall for its Mango Tangerine Scented Candle due to a safety risk posed by "a larger-than-expected flame."
The full statement, posted on the store's official website on June 27, states: "Trader Joe’s Mango Tangerine Scented Candle (SKU# 56879) may have an unexpected burn pattern. The candle flame can spread from the wick to the wax causing a larger than expected flame, posing a safety risk."
The brand urges those who have purchased it to either discard it or return it to their nearest store for a full refund. A spokesperson for the store told CBS Newsthat the recalled candles were made in the U.S.. They haven't shared if there have been any injuries or fires related to the product at this time.
The outlet did report finding a Facebook post warning others about the product. The post, in a private Facebook group dedicated to Trader Joe's products, read: "Just a PSA: I recently bought a Mango Tangerine candle that completely caught on fire after I lit it."
Another person took to a Reddit thread to share their scary experience: "Just had a terrible experience with this candle in which it melted the entire top layer of wax in mere moments, caught itself on fire, and stunk up my whole house. Incredibly unsafe, good to see it's being recalled."
