We constantly look to other countries (and of course vice versa) for beauty inspiration. We want our butts from Brazil, our skin-care from Europe and our nails? Well, from Japan apparently.

Many famous Japanese nail spas are making their way stateside to capitalize on the growing popularity of nail art-an aesthetic the Japanese have mastered and made famous. One of the most popular nail-care and spa destinations in cosmopolitan Tokyo has joined the ranks-recently opening its first outpost in North America with the debut of Mars The Salon Los Angeles. While nail art may be the salon’s trendy calling card, the lavish atmosphere and serene environment will also have any average salon-goer looking for a classic manicure and pedicure enchanted.

Each nail service is performed in a large private room complete with a custom-made leather chair, a built-in porcelain footbath and a high-definition television. The salon adheres to the Japanese cultural tradition of “treasuring every encounter” and you’d be hard pressed not to treasure a 90-minute spa manicure and 100-minute spa pedicure that includes fastidious attention to the nail bed and cuticles, a scrub, mask, massage and polish. Both services can be combined with two nail artists working simultaneously on your nails.

If you are in the market for fancier fair than just regular nail polish, the Tokyo salon gained notoriety for its pioneering use of soft gel, a material that promotes nail health and allows for limitless creative, custom-made nail art designs, which change by season.
